Another great instalment, but it does come with a rather brutal cliffhanger- just as well I already have the next book.

So far the series doesn't show any sign of slowing down, Kara is definitely one of my favourite urban fantasy kickass characters.

Still a fun series! Still enjoying it! Nice balance of catching the reader up if they've forgotten things, but not so much that it gets boring.

Left on a cliffhanger, which, is not my favorite in a book 1, by book 4, I'm in and totally cool with it, but I am dying to know what happens.

Book 5 is already on my "to read" list.

More answers and more questions pretty much sums up this series for me. I really enjoy reading the Kara Gillian series. There's just something compelling about Kara and the system of summoning that always leaves me waiting for more. That said, I really do not appreciate the giant cliffhanger in the end of the book. I know they serve as hooks for the next read, but come on already.

In any case! This was a fun read. Kara trucks along, doing her detective thing, summoning demons and whatnot. I really enjoyed Eilahn's inclusion, as the demon really grew on me as a character. I just wish there was more of Rhyzkahl, who I love to pieces (for no good reason at all). He shows up briefly and nags at Kara's thoughts a bit, but that's pretty much the extent of his involvement in this book (other than dropping some tantalizing bits of information). I'm not sure why I've never really warmed up to Ryan, who I'm just sort of okay with for the most part, but he was pretty good in this book, growing as a character and so on.

The plot was... Well, it flowed easily, and it gripped my attention, but the ending was a bit of a jumbled rush that just sort of made me shrug. It didn't lessen my enjoyment in reading, but it wasn't as good as it could have been. And then there was that cliffhanger that didn't help things, so it ended on a bit of a sour note. I still liked the book, and I thought it was pretty well done, but it could have been better.

Also, that cover is horrendous. What was the cover artist thinking? 4 stars.

Sins of the Demon
4 Stars

Beaulac detective, Kara Gillian, investigates a series of crimes with connections not only to the arcane, but to Kara herself as each of the victims is related to her in some way. As she attempts to solve the mystery, the evidence against Kara mounts up and it seems that she will not only have to save her job, but her life as well because someone from the demon realm is trying to summon the summoner …

An improvement on the last installment both in terms of the mystery and the character development. Although some questions are answered, others remain open and new ones are raised.

As people from Kara’s past start dropping dead, readers learn more about her history both before and after becoming a summoner. This adds an extra dimension to the mystery, which is very intriguing although it is possible to guess the villain through a simple process of elimination.

Kara’s love life is as complicated as ever. The enigmatic Rhyzkahl definitely seems to have his own agenda and there are some compelling revelations regarding Ryan and his mysterious identity. It should also be pointed out that Ryan and Kara have the worst timing on any couple in the UF genre.

The secondary characters are a significant factor in the appeal of this series. Zack and Jill are so cute together and Eilahn adds much needed comic relief.

On a final note, much has been made by many reviewers of the cliffhanger at the end of the book. While cliffhangers are annoying on principle, especially if readers are forced to wait a year or more for the next installment, this one isn’t too bad mainly because it opens up new avenues for exploring Rowland’s fascinating alternate worlds. Nevertheless, I am grateful that the sequel is already out, and I do not have to wait to find out what happens to Kara.

5 stars, without a doubt. This book was great! I actually loved the first three book of this series, but it took me some time to pick this one up, because to be honest I forgot how much I enjoy this series! And I have to say that I hate this cover, it looks like some erotic book, while it is everything but that. In fact it is a mystery filled book, with some paranormal elements, a great storyline and great characters. And I couldn't put it down!

I actually don't know where to start with this review, I loved the story. There is so much mystery, always there is some sort of murder she has to solve and every book it is done very good. I never have any idea who the murderer is and I love reading how the lead character gradually figures it out. Also there is one long storyline that progresses with each book and it get's more interesting with every book. I really can't wait to see what happens next!

Then the characters, I just love the lead character. I also love her inner dialogue and laughed out loud so often I lost count, it isn't really a humorous book, it is more the writing style and the sarcastic comments that make me laugh. It's brilliant really. The side characters are also great, although less so than the lead character, I grow to like them more with every book. And still there is so much myserty surrounding the other characters and I want to know more.

Well world building actually is something I should adress in my review of the first book (and I really intend to re-read that one fast and write a fabulous review of it, so that more people start reading this series). So to be short, I love the world building. It is original and actually we get only small pieces of information about the demons and the demon rhealm, but still it is very interesting and done well.

Another thing I love about this book is that the author actually has been a cop herself and well that's obvious in the way it is written, you get in depth details you don't get in other books. And I just love the fact that the author actually knows what she is talking about, it just ads something extra to the story.

And well I can't write a review of this book without saying that the ending sucked. I hate cliffhangers and this one had a really really terrible cliffhanger. A cliffhanger that just left me staring at the page and thinking " no, the author didn't end the book here. I want to know more! I want to know what comes next. I need the next book now!" Oke, it is official I hate cliffhangers.

To conclude: a great book, I loved every second of it and couldn't put it down. I love the mystery and I just want to keep reading to figure everything out along with the lead character. I love the story, the characters and the world building. And the ending sucked, because it ended with a cliffhanger.

Another great installment in the series.

When Kara´s enemies start dying, she becomes the prime suspect. But is somebody really trying to frame her or is he trying to make her a favor? Are the deaths related to the demon who attacks Kara? While investigating the cases, Kara was constantly trying to avoid being summoned to the demon realm by one of the demon Lords that is after her because of her relationship with Rhyzkahl.

I loved to see more about Ryan and who he really is. In this book, it was Ryan who was brought to the forefront, not Rhyzkahl and while I really liked it, I missed Rhyzkahl a lot. I also loved Kara´s demon bodyguard/roommate Eilahn. She was funny and her humor was a perfect match for Kara´s smart mouth.

And the cliffhanger? OMG, that almost killed me! I need to read the next book ASAP!!

This one was particularly good. Ending on a cliffhanger is a cruel trick, tho'.
