This book started out SO SLOW. it took forever to read because i was bored..but i wanted to know what happened.. so i kept reading it. the last fourth of the book, it suddenly got really good. very twisty over and over. a book shouldnt have to be boring for most of the 630 pages just to get to the good part though. not sure if ill read more of this series (its the bone collector series, remember the angelina jolie movie??).

I'm really, really disappointed in this book. I have absolutely loved this series: Lincoln Rhyme has absorbed me for six books, which were consistently amazing. This book was definitely not. Lincoln Rhyme hasn't lost any of his spark but Deaver has changed his focus.
So Lincoln Rhyme is phenomenal. All of my opinions about this book have nothing to do with how amazing Lincoln Rhyme is as a 'detective' and crime scene analyst. Everything I hate about this book is because it doesn't allow Lincoln Rhyme to shine. He is brilliant and has been brilliant but this book tried to distract me and I hated it.
Kathryn Dance. So Deaver has employed a common technique where he uses a successful series to introduce a character from his new series. (Connelly, I'm looking at you.) It's just a money-making scheme, really. Deaver's trying to get you interested in his other series, which I'm definitely not. I do not like Dance's character at all. I don't like her techniques. They are nowhere near on the same level as Rhyme's and should not be compared to his. I don't like her personality and her over-bearance in this novel was frustrating.
I didn't like the secondary plot. I didn't like Amelia being distracted from the original case. It was so annoying.
I waited seven books for a plot line to finally be completed, which was so frustrating. I'd totally forgotten about the empty plot line and so here's the solution. Well that's good to know...
I think I'm going to have to abandon this series for a while because this one was seriously disappointing. I definitely won't be reading this one again.

This book could possibly be closer to a 2 or 2.5 but I did enjoy most of this book. The

faux reveal got me but I knew that in typical Jeffery Deaver fashion, there was definitely more to the story. But the real reveal kinda bored me. It was interesting to see criminals from past books come up but I was just blah about it after first reading it about. I was just really rushing through the last 70 pages or so because I didn't really care. Great that Amelia's dad turned out not to be corrupt though.Spoiler
I'm coming to realize that none of the books are quite living up to the first one for me. Hope that changes because I do enjoy the series.sailormoon19's review against another edition

This was my first Deaver novel, so I don't know if they all read like this or not. It was seriously 450 pages of misdirection. Everything was tied up in the end, perhaps even too much so, but otherwise, I'm honestly not sure if this plot is very clever, or just incredibly convoluted.

The Cold Moon is the seventh book in the widely popular book series featuring Lincoln Rhyme. I've read this series many times and it doesn't get any less enjoyable each time. I read this one again in preparation for the upcoming book The Watchmakers Hand and this book features the first showdown will this unique antagonist who clashes with Rhyme across several subsequent books. I remember my first reading of the Cold Moon and being blown away but the twists and layers to this story. I seriously don't know how the author manages to weave such a complex mystery with so many layers that you never quite feel settled before another twist or reveal comes out of left field. I'd highly recommend this series.

Blutige Handabdrücke auf einem Pier, die Leiche fortgerissen von den eiskalten Fluten des Hudson River. In einer dunklen Sackgasse liegt ein Toter mit zerquetschten Brustkorb, verursacht durch einen tonnenschweren Eisenquader. Lincoln Rhyme und Amelia Sachs können kein Motiv erkennen. Der Täter hinterläßt an den Tatorten kleine laut tickende Standuhren - die unverwechselbare Visitenkarte des "Uhrmachers".
Bei der Jagd erhalten sie Unterstützung von einer neuen Kollegin, Kathryn Dance eine Kinesikspezialistin....
Der gesetzte Uhrmacher ist der siebte Teil um Lincoln Rhyme und Amelia Sachs, und in dem Kathryn Dance eingeführt wurde, die als Protagonistin mittlerweile in einer eigenen Reihe ermitteln darf.
Wie in den vorherigen Teilen steht die Spurenermittlung und deren Analyse im Vordergrund, aber durch Kathryn Dance wird den Verhören diesmal mehr Raum eingeräumt, was eine gelungene Abwechslung für mich darstellte.
Aber die Story die so spannend beginnt entwickelt sich für mich zu einem zähen Lesevergnügen. Ständig wird in die falsche Richtung ermittelt und eine Wendung jagt die nächste. Dabei werden die Wendungen für mich immer konstruierter und abstruser. Für mich hätte das was "von immer noch ein oben drauf setzen wollen". Dies hat meiner Meinung der Geschichte nicht gut getan, manchmal ist weniger echt mehr.
Auch die Protagonisten wirkten diesmal auch sehr klischeehaft. Lincoln Rhyme, der nach außen hin kalte Analytiker, Amelia Sachs, die auf einmal Muttergefühle bekommt, dann haben wir noch den mürrisch auftretenden Polizisten, der sich in einen Fall verheißt, und den stets bemühten Neuling, dem kleine Patzer passieren.
Schade, dieser Teil ist für mich bisher der schwächste Teil, dabei fing es doch so spannend an.
Mein Fazit:
Ein Krimi der Potential gehabt hätte, der durch die Wendungen und klischeehaften Protagonisten viel an Spannung verspielt hat. Als Rhyme-Sachs - an wohl ein muss, für alle anderen Leser empfehle ich eine der vielen anderen Teile der Reihe.

Some of Deaver's trademark twists really stretch one's suspension of disbelief in this book, but it's well-plotted and keeps you turning the pages to the end. If you like Rhyme, Sachs and the usual characters you'll enjoy it.
It is also notable for the introduction of Kathryn Dance, star of Deaver's forthcoming "The Sleeping Doll".
