When I first read beautiful broken things, it immediately became one of my favourite books. I wasn’t sure wether I wanted to read the sequel, when i discovered the was one. I was worried that it wouldn’t be as good, and would ruin the first book for me. However I am so glad I did read it. If you are in two minds about whether you should read fierce fragile hearts, please do. It is the perfect sequel to its counterpart.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Fierce Fragile Hearts is the breathtaking sequel to Beautiful Broken Things. Now those of you who know me know that I love sequels, but at the same time they make me nervous. I'm revisiting old friends, what if it doesn't live up to expectations. In this case there is no need to worry; Fierce Fragile Hearts is stunning and, in my humble opinion, is even better than Beautiful Broken Things. "Impossible!" I hear you cry, just wait and see! Sara Barnard has reached new and dizzy heights of brilliance with this story.

My favourite thing about this sequel is that it is written from Suzanne's perspective. I love Caddy and Rosie but Suzanne is my heart. In book one she slowly but surely wriggled her way off the page and into my heart and has stayed there ever since. I was so excited to get to know more of her story as she reunites with her best friends.

At the beginning of each chapter is the title of a song. Suzanne loves music and playlists, so being able to listen to these songs as I immersed myself in her world made for an emotional journey. I sobbed ugly tears on more than one occasion, there are moments in this story that hurt so badly I had to put the book down and give myself time to recover. But Fierce Fragile Hearts isn't a story of sadness and despair. It's a story of hope and friendship, of not giving up when life seems impossible, of holding on to that silver lining and realising that you are strong enough not just to survive but to shine.

There are new and wonderful characters to meet. Dilys and her little dog Clarence are a gift. A beautiful treasure that enter Suzanne's life and... I shall say no more as you need to experience their friendship for yourself.

Fierce Fragile Hearts is a beautiful and emotional story of growing up. The world may seem like a dark and frightening place but if we open our eyes and our hearts, there is so much love and kindness to found be too.

Another stunner from Sara Barnard, I laughed and cried along with Suzanne and often wanted to either hug or shake her friends. Absolutely wonderful!

'When someone knows you've been broken, all they see is the cracks. '

Been waiting so long for this!
The first book called Beautiful Broken Things follows Caddy and Rosie and everything that happens after Suze is added to the friendship pair.

This book follows Suze two years after her breakdown/downward spiral and all of the things that happen when she returns home to Brighton.
New romances and new experiences cause rifts between the friendship group in some aspects.
This book was a quick read and a great follow up to the first book!
5 stars!

YA books have certainly improved since my day! I believe that this book will help young people to be more understanding towards their friends who have faced trauma, and will be a hopeful and authentic story for those who relate to Suzy’s experiences. I read the first book years ago. It was lovely to see that Sarah Barnard has held the characters in mind and shown their growth .

I really liked the first book, but I LOVED this one. Such a beautiful, relatable and hopeful story about struggling with mental illness. All of the characters are really three-dimensional and likable. Read this book!!

A worthy sequel to [b:Beautiful Broken Things|25437747|Beautiful Broken Things|Sara Barnard|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1503826515s/25437747.jpg|45199888], picking up the girls' story a few years later and from Suzanne's point of view. It's similar to the first book in terms of the focus on female friendships, including the messy side, but there's a bit more romance in this one compared with what I remember from the first book.

The story is self-contained so it really works as a standalone with recurring characters - you don't have to have read Beautiful Broken Things first. Having said that, there are some big spoilers for BBT in Fierce Fragile Hearts so if anyone who is planning to read both should read them in order.
