I'm too asexual for this much lust.

About 25% of this book is about sex and didn't add anything to the plot. While I know this might just be me, it threw me off enough for me to stop even caring about the ending. A good thing, I guess, because everything came together so easily that it wasn't even worth all of the time they spent worrying.

“Maybe you will write it one day…a story or a poem of a prince who desired his valet like his lungs yearned for air.”

You know that feeling you get when you come across a book you didn’t even know was everything you were looking for and it just steals your heart in every way possible? yeah, that was this for me.

Ever After is about two men, one born a prince and one who was not. At first glance there is not much in common between the two besides both having to be forced so deep in the closet due to the time period. You have, Prince Merrick, who knows he has to marry and produce a heir but who is infatuated with his new valet. And then you have, Cassius, who lives and breathes for his family and isn’t the biggest fan of Prince Merrick. But, it was impossible from the beginning for them to even try and stop the emotions from arising between the two.

I found that I kept forgetting I was reading a fairy tale because it just felt more like a historical romance to me. Not complaining one bit about that though. The chemistry between Merrick and Cassius was some of the best I have read in awhile — so much so that I had troubles putting this book down. I just wanted to soak in all the romance, all the feels and all the beautiful moments between the two.

While Ever After is in fact about a prince and a man who isn’t — it is also about so much more. It’s about an artist and a writer. About two men who long to just be together when it seems at every turn it’s a dead end for that to even begin to be possible. It’s about falling in love, the hurting that comes with it and how even when it seems utterly impossible there can be a happily ever after.

If you’re looking for a forbidden romance between two men who say the most beautiful things to one another, want nothing more to fight for their romance but finding it impossible to do so and for a story that comes together so perfectly you’ll sigh at the overwhelming amount of feels hitting you? Then, [b:Ever After|38824681|Ever After|Riley Hart|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1519764581s/38824681.jpg|60020930] is most definitely for you.

This story is simply what the title suggest: A Gay Fairy Tale.. The authors state that this is set in a made up world, at no real time, where rules are whatever they wish them to be and to go in with an open mind. What they meant by this is the tale is set in what seems to be olden times; phones don't exist, but they drive cars. This didn't bother me a bit. I was too engrossed in the story.

Merrick is a Prince, while Cassius is poor working class. By some twist of fate after a good deed from Cassius he ends up with a promotion to being the Prince's valet. What this means is he attends to the Prince personally such as keeping his schedule and dressing him for the days events. ( Cassius thinks this is a ridiculous, that grown man should be able to dress himself and later finds out the Prince himself agrees.) This is however, a time where tradition and appearance are important for the monarchy.

After a few poorly timed erections, it becomes known to each other that they both prefer men. It is not commonly accepted in this world and is particularly difficult for Merrick. He is duty bound to marry a women to produce an heir as he will become King one day. Cassius just wants a good paying job so that he can help support his handicapped mother and two sisters. These reasons are what keeps the two men dancing around their attraction until they can no longer stand it. Their feelings are real, their words to each other sweet and downright adorable. Throughout their whole affair there is still the looming sadness that it has to end, that a few stolen moments are all they will ever have before duty calls.

Cassius wished for nothing more than for their destiny to be different…but it was not. It would never be, and wishing would not change it.

My heart ached for these two. The building relationship was so honest and pure. Watching them fall for reach other was both a joy and painful to read because if we didn't get a HEA for these two I swear I would scream. Both MCs were portrayed as kind and good men. They deserved each other and it was sad to be a part of their thoughts when they were dreading their parting.

“You are pure and real and complicated. To someone like me, you might simply be everything.”

The end does come....for a time. A grand gesture goes awry. Hearts are broken. Duty still calls. Then its time for another grand speech. This time gets a much better answer than before. That answer is our HEA (thank goodness!). We also get an epilogue 9 months in the future. HELLS YA! no silly 3 weeks later BS. We get the whole picture. To sum up this review: READ IT. I am never dissapointed by [a:Riley Hart|7013384|Riley Hart|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1364660147p2/7013384.jpg] with or without her collab partner in [a:Christina Lee|7060187|Christina Lee|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1401547110p2/7060187.jpg]. 4.5 stars

What an absolutely beautiful story!!!!
The imagery is perfection and I immediately fell in love with both Merrick and Cassius. In this fictitious world, Merrick, the young Prince who is attracted to his new vallet.
Cassius is the footman to Prince Merrick who gets promoted to his personal vallet when his current one falls ill and must retire. While he is distractingly attracted to the Prince, he is almost disgusted at how much of a process it is, the princes daily life. Why can’t a grown man dress himself? He quickly learns that Merrick is much, much more than his title. When both men’s’ bodies betray their lust to each other, they realize that they both seek men, not women, as partners. But, how can they be together when Merrick is supposed to be searching for a potential wife to produce an heir to the throne?
Omg this story was adorable and the love the two men share is beautiful. Not to mention, the cover was freaking gorgeous.

This was such a truly sweet fairy tale romance story!! Written exceptionally well, as are all the books by these two phenomenal authors!!
They brought a fresh and deeply emotional new perspective to this well-known fairy tale trope.

I expected it to be enchanting, which it absolutely was, but I was taken by surprise by the gut-wrenching goodbye at one point... I'd thought they would have had an easier time getting to their HEA... because... fairy tale. But no... things looked bleak there for quite awhile. I hurt for these characters. Luckily, everything turned out well in the end :-)

The cover is absolutely magical and perfectly reflects the beauty of the story within.

I loved this book and I hope more will follow in the same vein!

In this precious fairy tale we follow Prince Merrick and valet Cassius as they fall in love with each other. The world is a hybrid between old and new, a place in time that is a fantasy. I loved these two men as they bonded over art, children and charity work. Very enjoyable read, great men, sexy times, intriguing premise.

There was nothing complex about the world nor the people. It was a purely simple fairy tale, that ended happily ever after.

I cringed more than few times but it was with a smile on my face at least. Very much fairy tale writing.

And like every fairy tale, of course
a happily ever after!

Cute

Growing up in the land of Hans Christian Andersen, I've always been able to become engrossed in the land of fairytales.

So even though no one died or no limbs were cut off (I'm talking about the REAL kind of fairytales and not the Disney versions), this book didn't seem so farfetched or strange to me.

Merrick and Cas' story felt just as sweet as any other love story I've ever read.

I just couldn't get into this, I didn't like the characters and just found it too slow and repetitive, especially at the start.
