I did expect more from this however loved the academic rivals aspect with Laura and Carmilla’s relationship. The writing was slower for me at times and harder to engage in the story but nevertheless was a good read.

Gorgeously written and honestly a fun, heady read, but I found myself wanting more—more exploration of
kink, especially like in the vampire party scene (though I know queer kink at all is unusual to see in a traditionally published book)
, more growth of Laura outside of her obsession, and definitely more exploration of
Isis as a villain
. I did appreciate the compare-and-contrasts between power dynamics, though I would’ve loved to see Carmilla and Laura
reach a stronger conclusion about boundaries on their own.
Also, was Elenore seeing them at the pub a loose thread that went untied? I can’t remember.

Sapphic poetry? Kinky vampire parties?? Excellent, stellar, perfect. I love Carmilla, and this is a very interesting and creative retelling. Some parts of the climax and resolution, I didn't like. Also, I know she's not a main character in the story, but I loved Elenore and wished there was more of her.
