This story was so cute! I loved Carter and Lexi. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. If you’re looking for a quick Christmas read, look no further than this perfect addition to Reindeer Falls.

Sometimes you’ve got to fake it if you want custody of the dog…

Welcome to Reindeer Falls, the most magical and festive town in America, where you can’t not fall in love at all the cute and festive date spots. When baseball player Carter Sheppard arrives back in town after the death of his Uncle Joe and claim his inheritance Rudy, the dog - he’s in the midst of a bit of a crisis. With his bare ass posted all over the internet after a hook-up, he needs someone to help cleanup his image if he has any hope of scoring a sponsorship deal. Enter librarian Lexi Foster, Joe’s neighbour and the woman who has been looking after Rudy. As she drops off Rudy, Carter makes a proposal - they get fake engaged so he can showcase his clean image and score his brand deal, and she can get Rudy once everything is over. It’s a deal Lexi can’t turn down, even though the last thing she wants to do is pretend to be in a relationship with Carter, despite how drop-dead gorgeous he looks. As they start going on dates around Reindeer Falls and enjoying the festivities of the season, fake engagement ring and all, the lines between what is for show and what is real start to blur, and it’s not long before they realise that they’ve been set up from beyond the grave.

Fake dating? At Christmas? With a dog? The boy next door? And there’s a bookshop date? YES PLEASE! Jana has rounded out this second Reindeer Falls trilogy with some of my favourite romance elements, and it might just be my favourite in the series? At least this second part of the series? I don’t know, but it was a bloody fun read!

Lexi and Carter’s relationship oozed all the chemistry, sexual tension, and swoon, with a nice festive dose of spice. Fake dating is forever one of my favourite tropes as I love seeing the lines blur between the couple as they slowly fall in love for real. Lexi and Carter were no different, and their relationship grew to be super sweet and swoony.

Following Lexi and Carter around Reindeer Falls on their dates was so fun, and it once again solidified how much I wish Reindeer Falls was a real town and how much I want to live there! There’s a freaking boat that’s been docked and turned into a cozy bookstore, and there’s sleigh rides at Christmas time, not to mention every other location that has been mentioned or seen in the previous five books! It’s the ultimate Hallmark movie Christmas location with ALL the festive goodness!

Again, as with the previous novellas, I do wish this had been given the full novel treatment. Although, I think my main wish would be alternating perspectives - I just really wanted to get  inside Carter’s head through all this! Despite it’s length though, Jana was able to give Carter and Lexi a relatively complete story in such a quick read.

Book your ticket to Reindeer Falls for the ultimate festive read to round out the reading year with!

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jana Aston’s sixth Reindeer Falls story, The Bachelor on The Shelf, is exactly what we all need for a Christmas story. It includes a nerdy but cute librarian heroine, Lexi, and a gorgeous professional baseball player, Carter. It also adds in an adorable, older pup, Rudy, the dog that Carter inherits after his uncle’s death. Lexi’s awkwardness makes for some adorable moments with Carter who needs her help to rehabilitate his image as a playboy. When she decides to pretend to be his fake fiancee to gain custody of Rudy, the hijinks of this story kick in. It also brings some fierce chemistry that scorches the pages. There is plenty of Christmas in this story (not as much as book 4), there is some steam, and there is the sweetest of happy endings, as Carter and Lexi are clearly fated for each other.

If you’re looking for $exy and sweet, then you will adore Jana Aston’s The Bachelor on The Shelf.

The baseball playing Sheppard brother finds his librarian love!

I loved that Carter really did like everything about Reindeer Falls - including the local librarian. One fake engagement which stems from the dog that Carter inherited from his late uncle and that Lexi - the librarian who lived next door to Carter's uncle - loves and this story is a great way to round out the latest collection of Reindeer Falls stories. Am I asking too much in hoping Jana Aston finds a way to give us more from this town - it's a town I could definitely fall in love with again and again!!

Carter and Lexi's faux fake relationship may just be the best yet in this series. I laughed so hard - especially because it was clear from the very beginning that they had feelings for each other, that they both tried to keep in check while having very hot sex ;)

Another magical holiday romance. Book 6 in this series features a librarian and a pro-baller. She's had a crush on him when they were in high school, and now he's back in town and needs to clean up his image, and he thinks the best way is to get engaged to a 'wholesome' girl. Enter the librarian. Only she doesn't consider herself all that wholesome. She has an inner bad girl waiting to come out. Except every time she tries to be a little naughty, things go wrong, ensuring more laughs than lust. Good and fun characters. This is a fast paced book, as it is more along the lines of a novella. It can be read in just a couple hours. It has everything a full length novel does... sexy times, heartbreak, healing, laughs, just fast forward a little bit. Books one through three feature three sisters and the random men who enter their lives. Books four through six feature three brothers and three best friends. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but the characters cross over and you may get some small spoilers of the other relationships/stories. Technically, they can be read in any order, (as the timeline overlaps,) but I would suggest reading them in order to avoid those mini spoilers. There is some sexual content, just enough to rate this NC-17.
