An excellent novel, as indeed all of Jane Austen's are! But my least favorite. I think I like Marianne the least of the heroines. I just had not very much sympathy with most of the characters... Edward is basically a cardboard cutout. Elinor is an island of good sense surrounded by inferior connections deficient in good sense, good manners, or both. Ugh. Too much of it.

That being said, I adore Mrs. Jenkins and wish I could spend time with her. Good natured, kind, positive, generous, loving. Her manners were those of the previous century, but she was not undeserving of respect for their sake.

I love reading books by Jane Austen so much!!! She is absolutely brilliant at writing dialogue and characters. I genuinely laughed out loud at times when reading this. A couple things left me confused and felt like more could have been written - why does Marianne end up with colonel Brandon in the end?? It seems like they have nothing in common and she’s so young and would have met someone else?? I saw in the movie she marries him and hoped the book would elaborate more on how this comes to pass because it seems very abrupt. I also don’t know how Lucy Steele came to be suddenly in love and marry the other brother? This is sort of glossed over. Anyway, I still enjoyed it immensely!!

Generally enjoyable and was a slightly different regency romance than what I feel is standard, but this did ultimately suffer from being an Austen - you know exactly what's going to happen miles before the finish line. Whilst I wouldn't say this was exactly thrilling, it was a more unique plot that other novels in this genre, and I did love the sister dynamic. Overall, full of charm, but didn't feel entirely new.

Having previously given “Pride and Prejudice” a low rating, my expectations were quite low. However. HOWEVER.

This book was amazing. It slapped. I consumed it in audio book format, which I think was a good choice. This is just like 12 hours of gossip and drama? Absolute perfection, if you ask me.

Jane Austen was the Wattpad Queen of her lifetime fr.

Also, Eleanor is such a queen? Marianne as well? Truly the og girlbosses.
