As Honey Springs is gearing up for a harvest festival, Roxy stumbles over another body—this one seasonally decked out as a scarecrow. Of course, Roxy decides to solve the murder and I’m not quite sure why as she didn’t even know the person.
Roxy’s need to solve murders seems a one-upmanship against Spencer, the sheriff. It’s like she has this need to be the smartest one and I don’t feel that she works with Spencer, but rather competes against him. She found evidence and put her fingers all over it and didn’t turn it over to Spencer immediately, but took it to her mom to compare handwriting. Surely with her law degree she understands chain of evidence—something us armchair detectives have learned about through books and TV.
It wasn’t a bad story, but I felt Roxy was more annoying than normal this time around and I usually like this series. Hopefully Roxy will tone it down a notch and not be so self-absorbed in the next book.
