Once again I have been emotionally gut punched by Linden A. Lewis. The Last Hero is absolutely stunning. Best final book in a trilogy I've read in years.
Lewis's writing is addicting, and their characters burst off the page, their thought processes and actions and connections to each other so strong you can't help but be sucked into their ever-intertwining story.
I cried for pretty much the last seventy-five pages straight and then for minutes after I finished.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I think the foreshadowing was done pretty well compared to the previous books and the plot lines of different characters all came together smoothly. The world building was interesting and greatly contributed to the overall investment in the story. I think it was even better executed than book 1 in this regard.

I loved the storylines of Lucia, Lito and Astrid. While I think some more drastic choices could have been made, I think they were engaging and brought enough reality of war (emotional damage šŸ˜). However, I hated Hiroā€™s storyline. His character was already a bit questionable in the previous book, but here it just got worse. And no, Iā€™m not talking about queer representation. I am talking about the unauthentic dialogues - the speeches he made were not realistic in the environment they were made. The vocabulary used tried to describe him as a bit of rebel, but it was too much in your face. He was a caricature, not a real person. That really put me off because I think other characters didnā€™t have that problem.

Also, the ending was very ā€¦ boring? Anticlimactic? After so much, the resolution of HUGE problems was fast, plain and didnā€™t have any consequences.
I felt that the author wanted to make it happier for the reader at the expense of the actual story. Like come on, everything is so amazing after such horrible events? I didnā€™t feel horrible about the dying people in the hospitals, because there were maybe 2 sentences dedicated to it. And everyone forgave those who were basically war criminals? They just decided to say that ā€œ this one person was a terrorist and letā€™s forget about itā€.

Overall, I am not sure whether I would recommend this series. It has an interesting world and lore behind it, some characters were very unique and I loved following their story, no matter how tragic in some places. But the flaws in writing, story being flat and uneventful for a whole book and a unsatisfying ending canā€™t be ignored.

Really enjoyed this whole triology. The final book was a good wrap up and conclusion. There were some parts of the story (pivotal character moments) where I felt the book moved too quickly and I didnā€™t understand/trust the motivations of the characters. Overall good though and sucked me into the story much like the first two.

One complaint about the audiobook version is with so many different narrators there were inconsistencies in pronunciation that I found disruptive as there were a couple times I didnā€™t realize different narrators were talking about the same thing until it came up a couple times.

i have no words to properly describe how amazing this series is! Iā€™m sure it has its flaws, but the representation, the pacing, the thrilling absolutely gripping storylines, the multiple action and emotion packed POVs, all of it was so incredible and kept me hooked on every word. the only thing that stopped me from finishing this in one sitting was my stupid bodily needs like sleep.

As much as I enjoyed this trilogy as a whole, this last book was a struggle to get through. Having one horrible and horrifying thing happen after the other was just plain emotionally exhausting.

Definitely the worst of the trilogy, but still highly entertaining read. I recommend
