I really loved the explorations of class and privilege in this book, the way it followed two different character perspectives (Ruby and her father, Martin), and how everything unfolded over the course of one day. The pacing and the way the story ramped up through the third act were great, but there was one major plot device that just felt excessive and out of place.

sharp and thoughtful. not a ton happens in this book, but, at the same time, so much happens. it takes over the place of one day, yet it rarely felt constrained by that aspect. the character work in this novel is really solid, and the relationships are realistic and compelling, especially that of ruby and her parents, particularly ruby and martin. it's simple on its surface — a critique of classism in nyc and it all happens in Just One Day! — but it's a lot more complex than that and the characters and plot are quite interesting. despite being litfic, it's paced almost like a thriller, which i found v unique and exciting. i thought the final chapter was a little info-dumpy and i would have liked a bit more from some characters, but, overall, this was an enjoyable and thought-provoking read.
