The highly sought after streetwear brand Hybrid X has landed in the Fens, bringing with it a crime wave that includes burglaries, muggings and eventually leads to a young man's death. The streets are awash with illegal steroids, and there are poachers on the marshes in the middle of the night, so DI Jackman and his team have their hands full. When another young man's body is found the investigation ratches up a notch, and soon the team realise that these crimes might actually not be as separate as they thought.

Another excellent installment of the Jackman and Evans series.
This one picks up not long after the ending of the previous book, and there are some strong ties between the two so it would definitely be best to have read that one first.

As is the usual style for this series the plot isn't particularly suspenseful or full of cliff hangers, but it does move along at a nice pace. There isn't really any downtime in the book, and it definitely keeps you engaged all the way through.

I found it mind boggling that streetwear could be such a highly sought after item (probably says a lot about my fashion sense!) but the foreword explains that this is a very real scenario. The book touches on much darker topics too so please beware if you are a sensitive reader.

I think the character development in these books is part of what makes me enjoy them so much (as well as them being well written police procedurals). Both Jackman and Evans are very likeable, as are the team they work with. I was unsure about the introduction of Detective Vic Blackwell, especially in the early stages of the book, but actually came around to the idea as his storyline began to play out. I'm interested to see where Ellis takes his character, although I'm sincerely hoping it doesn't go in the way I'm anticipating it might.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, my absolute favourite thing about listening to this series is that they are narrated by Richard Armitage. If you haven't listened to any of them yet do yourself a favour and get started!
