I absolutely love these stories, which I read in high school Latin class. As for any literature, reading in the original language skyrockets one's appreciation of the work.

I really wanted to like this and continue on, but this book REALLY requires you to have a solid foundation in Greek mythology prior to reading. As stated in the introduction, Ovid references a myriad of Gods and other beings using multiple different names for the same person even within the same paragraph. That on top of all the mythological locations and stories is very overwhelming to a novice. I’m sure it’s a great story, but I just can’t do it. And this from someone who loves high fantasy.

It's pretty clear that this was, in fact, a draft of Ovid's. It has some interesting points though, and I wouldn't say it WASN'T worth it.

As a child I used to borrow books from the public library on Classical mythology that were aimed at children, and was always fascinated by these tales. It was thrilling, when, as an adult I discovered and was able to embrace this, the source.
