Despite an ending that suffered somewhat of 'Stephen King' syndrome, I found this novel to be extremely engaging and shows once again why Winton is one of the great Australian authors.

I've had this book on my shelf for ages and have finally got round to reading it - well, more fool me, because it's brilliant! It may be slight in size but it packs a powerful punch - haunting, spooky and just amazing. It might have started off slowly but the character build up is gripping and it just keeps getting better, especially when they finally all get together! I will definitely be buying more Winton books in the near future.
