THE HALLOWED COURT continues the story for Carina, Brecht, and Alexander, this time with an emphasis on Alexander as he's forced to complete the Trials and prove to the Conclave that he's worthy of being a hunter. Of course there's something a bit off about this Conclave and their mysterious leader and Alexander is forced to rely on Brecht's knowledge of the paranormal world to succeed. I'll admit this wasn't what I was expecting as a follow up to THE BINDING EYE but it was still good. We learn a little bit more about the history of hunters but not as much as I would expect considering one of the Trials is supposed test Alexander's knowledge of the Oath and hunters.

I also thought it was odd that Brecht only had one POV chapter and I don't really feel like his relationship with Carina made any advancements or changes. I did like that we see the development of friendship and trust between Alexander and Brecht as they have to work together more. Overall, an interesting read but it doesn't resolve any of the issues that were left hanging at the end of book 1 and I have even more questions now.
