Personally 3.5 stars but I’ll raise it up because it was a well written book. His narration could have been a little less stiff but he’s not an actor and he didn’t personally write the book. And honestly I got bored about half way but that’s me
This was an inspiring story and Massimino had a good support system which not everyone has or gets while overcoming problems. It was interesting getting the scoop on the examinations, initiations, what it’s like in NASA and the whole shebang. Now I’m interested in a story of a woman or a non cis white man’s POV.

I have to say that I was first drawn to this book because I recognized Mike Massimino from the Big Bang Theory. That said, I am so glad I picked up this book. I learned about his experience attempting to (and finally) becoming an astronaut. It was an interesting book and I am glad to have read it.
The thing that stands out to me most about this book was how much he had to overcome to achieve his dream. He worked incredibly hard to get there and I find that so awesome. He tells stories about his whole life and how everything lead him to the path he ended up on. I really appreciated his down to earth sense of the world.
The topic of space is one that is interesting to me. If you enjoyed The Martian, you may also enjoy this book. (Even though that one is fiction, they have similar themes). Thanks so much for the opportunity to read this book!

I loved this book! Mike Massimino gives you an inside look at how hard astronauts work. The physical and mental strength it requires is astonishing. To even get a chance at being an astronaut you need be a PhD, a pilot, scuba dive, be extremely physically fit, and be able to not go insane when you're stuck in a spaceship hundreds of miles above the earth. It made me love space and wish I'd known more about it sooner.
Wow this was both exciting and very interesting. Dealt a lot with space and such but also about his life and aspirations to become an astronaut and the struggles getting there. I was completely hooked on the book and I'm very glad I got recommended this as I might had missed it otherwise.
No surprise here, I love space and everything to do with it and as I'll most likely never go there, the next best thing is reading about the experiences of those who have. The stories of our astronauts are varied, but in the end they're clearly our best and brightest and selected for a reason. Mike Massimino was one of the first astronauts I remember following via social media and whose videos I watched online. His is a story of a guy who followed a path of the things he loved and with each turn found himself in the right place at the right time. He was one of the first astronauts to embrace social media by being the first to tweet from space as well and document his everyday life both in space and on the ground. He also opened the daily working of astronauts to us all by filming videos all over the place while training and in outer to share his experiences with a wide audience. Lastly, he's one of the people responsible for keeping the Hubble Telescope up and running by flying up there on two separate occasions and repairing it via spacewalk. The hubble stories alone make this a fascinating read and when complied together with a larger than life character like Massimino, you just can't go wrong.

It's not surprising that I sought out a memoir from someone who has been in space. I picked this up after the Mary Roath book. 10/10 would recommend. Massimino is funny, charming, and does a great job of explaining what it's like to train to be an astronaut to a normal human who would never have the opportunity to be an astronaut.
