Some really powerful points were made. A lot of reflection of what it means to grow up as a girl in this world.
Worth the listen.

Vulnerable, compelling, and brutally honest. This could be my favorite of her books!

Not a perfect book, but an essential one. The choice to set many of these essays in the present tense was a major misstep, I think. And I noticed that she uses the same strategy over and over to end the essays--it becomes a bit predictable. In general, I enjoy the brief punchiness of the shorter essays, but often I felt that as soon as we were really getting somewhere, the pieces frequently ended. I do think the through-line becomes a little muddled in the final section, and the book ends somewhat abruptly, but these questions at the craft-level did not diminish this book's impact.
This is a terribly important book, and one that I assume all women would find relatable. I certainly found many of my own experiences mirrored in Jessica's memoir-in-essays. As painful as many of these experiences are, Jessica is never self-pitying, and in fact, she deftly uses humor and voice even while highlighting some of men's worst behavior. This is a must-read for women who would benefit from seeing their experiences situated within a larger context, and for men seeking to understand the threat we are under, truly, every day.

I am convinced that the only way to truly push past our prejudices and accept one another is to share our stories. Jessica's candor is refreshing. Her experiences brought up memories of passive aggressive comments and nonchalant remarks from the men in my life that the women, myself included, pass off as *ahem* locker room talk. Addressing these issues as Sex Object does and solving them is the only way to keep our daughters safe and our sons from becoming the type of men that objectify women and don't see anything wrong with doing so.
This was an emotional read. It gave me a lot to think about.
