What a crazy story, as always, Larson delivers history in a way that you can't put down.

Started off slowly, but turned out to be a good read. Makes me want to go back to Chicago and see sites mentioned in the book. It was interesting to hear how many things originated at the 1893 World's Fair that are commonplace today. The murder bits were stranger than fiction *shudder*.

I choose this book because I wanted a deep dive into HH Holmes, little did I know that the beauty of this book is all about the history of Chicago. I was mesmerized by the story of the world’s fair. I 100% want to visit Chicago to do a deeper dive. Love it.

it was great, and i enjoyed it, but there was some ableism and racism. and transphobia. so.

Larson has an engaging style, but I have to say... the subject of the book may not be for everyone.

I experienced a very visceral reaction to some of the details. Knowing that the events chronicled were true made it even worse. I felt ill and had to stop reading the book.

More about the Chicago Worlds Fair than anything, which was interesting, but more about Holmes would have been nice.
