Although this is non-fiction and the text takes materials from archives, court transcripts, etc., it's as gripping as any historical fiction novel. Larson's book really takes one into the mind of a killer and into Gilded Age America.

Not as good as Larson’s Dead Wake but still a fascinating read

3.5 stars rounded down.
This should have been a book just about the World’s Fair. There was so much speculation stated as fact when it came to the Holmes parts, and they didn’t feel as well researched/cared about. Also took me literally FOREVER to finally get around to finishing it.
4 stars for the World’s Fair parts, 2.5 stars for the H. H. Holmes bits. Honestly? Skip the Holmes chapters and read it as the book about the Fair it should have been.
