Loved it. Only complain...really annoyed me when Jen said the same word three times in a row. Other than that, awesome story! Finished in 3 days.

I heard a lot of hype about this book before I read it, so I feared it would not live up to its reputation; instead, it exceeded it.

The premise is simple. A mother, Jen Brotherhood, is waiting up for her 18 year old son, Todd, to come home. When Todd appears on the street in front of the house, Jen witnesses him pull a knife and stab a man. Todd is arrested and taken into custody. Then… Jen wakes up the next morning and it is the day before Todd committed the murder. As the story progresses, Jen is transported back to different days in her past and she is certain she is being given the chance to stop the murder, but how?

I was struck immediately by how realistic this felt. Jen knows that time travel is not a thing, and her reaction to it happening to her felt exactly like I think I would feel in that situation. She is disoriented, scared, confused, even physically ill. When she comes to accept she is really moving through time, her frustration that nobody believes her is palpable, as is the desperation she feels concerning the fate of her son.

Ostensibly, Jen is sent back in time to solve, or prevent, the murder. However, her journey becomes more than that and incorporates themes of motherhood and marriage. Her travels back through time unearths more mysteries beyond the actions of her son. I won’t say too much about the plot or Jen’s journey, so as not to spoil anything. It was richer and more intricate than I expected. This was a clever premise, written extremely well. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
