Introduces fractions/math concepts with a fun story about sharing and Santat's lovely artwork.
I again liked the Elephant and Piggie cameo here, and the basis was very interesting. The book gives some points on math and division which was fun. It could be a good book to really start that for young readers. The art style threw me a bit with the switch between what looked like clay figures and then illustrations. But the characters were silly and I know a lot of kids who will like it.
For: older kids on the younger readers spectrum who are ready for math talks; fans of different animals; readers who aren't ready to let Elephant and Piggie go.
Possible red flags: hippo anxiety; friendship tensions.

LIght and fluffy entry in the Elephant and Piggie Reads series. This means that Elephant and Piggie bookend the story but are not the focus. The main narrative is about a hippo, two squirrels and a crocodile trying to split three cookies between the four of them.
It's ok, but would be a good read-aloud before starting division.

A super cute picture book about four friends who must share three cookies equally. A fun story that teaches math AND sharing skills.
What a great combo Dan Santat and Mo Willems are. I loved Dan's voice and characters. I think his four new friends make great companions for Elephant and Piggie!
LOVE that there are still Elephant & Piggie type books/humor coming our way, and their cameos in this new series! Great also that there will be a variety of voices throughout the series. These will be keeping kids laughing and entertained for sure.
Adorable! This is a cute, fun story about the perils (and triumphs) of sharing with great illustrations. I also love the "read it with Elephant and Piggie" concept. Great for those parents (like me!) with children who have worked their way through the Elephant and Piggie series and are ready to try something (read: anything! please, anything!!!) new.
