I really enjoy B.A. Paris' writing. It's exciting and thrilling. I enjoy how the story unfolds itself, revealing just enough each chapter to keep me satisfied that I learned another piece of the story and not too much that I'm still wondering where it's going.
I found The Prisoner really predictable, not just the story, but even the characters. After the first couple chapters of introductions, it was pretty evident what was going on; but nonetheless giving it 4 stars because I found it an enjoyable read and couldn't wait to keep listening and find out if my suspicions were right.
Georgia Macguire did a great job narrating. Her voice brought such personality to each character.
Thank you NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the arc.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you so so much Netgalley for this opportunity
I was conflicted between giving this 3 or 4 stars because the ending fell short. I'll start off with the beginning, though, I was HOOKED from the first page!! I stayed up late reading till my eyes couldn't stay open anymore. The first part was INCREDIBLE!! fast-paced, so many questions leaving you to want to find out what in the world is going on!
However, as soon as I started the book's second part, I had no urgency to finish... I lost interest in the plot and felt there was so much extra information that either didn't make sense or felt incomplete. This book held so much potential to be amazing if the ending didn't fall short. I was annoyed and frustrated with questions that were finally answered because it wasn't what I expected or what I hoped for.
Overall, the pacing was fast until the second part after that, I found it difficult to push through. There was only one main character (Amelie), and she developed a bit in the story, but PHEW, I became SO frustrated with some of the decisions she made... thinking about it now makes me cringe and shake my head *smh* If the ending didn't feel rushed, I would recommend this book to everyone!! I still plan on reading B.A. Paris's book and recently found [b:Behind Closed Doors|29437949|Behind Closed Doors|B.A. Paris|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1458854462l/29437949._SY75_.jpg|45981530] while thrifting. !!!REVIEW!!!
TITLE: THE PRISONER
AUTHOR: B. A. PARIS
PUBLISHER: ST. MARTIN’S PRESS
PUBLICATION DATE: NOVEMBER 1ST, 2022
RATING: 4 / 5 STARS
I can see from looking at other’s reviews that a lot of my fellow reader/reviewers didn’t like this book very much, but I got to say that I actually really liked it! Was it the pinnacle of all thrillers? No, but it was intriguing, compelling, entertaining, and a total page-turner. Most of all? I was never bored. Thank goodness for that because I’m so sick and tired of books that are supposed to be thrillers being absolutely boring.
The book is divided into two sections, each one set up a little differently: in the first section, the story is divided between the past and the present, both narrated in first-person from our protagonist’s POV. The second section is also narrated in first-person by the protagonist, but is told solely in the present. I thought this was a great way of denoting the change both in scenery and circumstance for the protagonist and also a good way of giving us readers a break from having to read an entire book of dual timeline narrative. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good dual timeline narrative plot structure, but it simply wouldn’t have worked well for the entire book. Plus, the change up came at a great time in the book to bring something fresh to the story as a whole: it was like a change in structure mixed with a turn. I thought it was well done.
The thing about a book like this is I can’t break down the book and tell you what I liked and didn’t like specifically about it because of spoilers. I can tell you I liked the first half better than the second half and I loved the last few pages a lot. I can tell you I have mixed feelings about most of the second half, but not enough to say I disliked it. The theme of being a prisoner in one way or another runs deep and wide throughout this novel, and it brings an emotional depth and sense of chilling psychological distress to the book I really enjoyed.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for granting me access to this title in exchange for a fair and honest review.

When Amelie father passes away when she's just 16 she runs away to find a job to survive. She finds herself a good job working in the home of woman that turns into a great friend.
Amelie is naive and gets swept up into a bad deal with Ned. She finds herself trapped with no way out. When she and Ned get kidnapped and locked up she must find a way to escape and survive, regardless of what her husband says.
The book was very fast-paced and it kept me wanting to know what would happen next. It was a good story and it all came together. I am just not sure if it will be memorable even in the next month.
