I very much enjoyed this book! Nothing blew my mind and I sort of figured out one end reveal but it certainly kept my attention the entire time. Also a good narrator! I think a lot of people don't like the ending and I'm still thinking on it after listening to it twice, but I think I did?

is it just me or did this book feel literally half-written?
like, the last page of the book ends in the middle of a conversation … I’m so confused at why this was an artistic choice…
ANYWAY
I’m literally so angry at this book!!! ba paris is a hit or miss author for me, and unfortunately, this one was a big ol miss 🫠
this book takes place between two different timelines of a girl down on her luck after her father passes away and desperate to start a new life. the pacing was excellent, and the ability to switch back and forth between those two timelines at the ideal moment was a great choice by the author!!
the plot itself, on the other hand, just didn’t make any sense. it seemed very all over the place and rushed - and, without giving any spoilers, it was truly a dumpster fire of every terrible plot in the book thrown in one. I couldn’t believe this was the same author who wrote THE THERAPIST and BEHIND CLOSED DOORS! 😭
the MC was a naive human being who found herself in terrible situations, but when she pursued figuring out the people behind it all, she left everything wide open. she found out a few answers, and then was like okay I’m good bye. and then the book just ended?
I’m just so confused at what this book tried to be because I’m not sure if it was a closed door mystery, locked room mystery, domestic thriller, or a revenge plot. I think it tried to be them all ☠️
I would really not recommend this book, and it really breaks my heart to be writing this review because this one was one of my most anticipated books this year!!
will I still read another ba paris though? of course 😅
thank you to netgalley and st. martin’s press for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review! this one’s out in november.

Welcome to the mind games. Amelie and her billionaire husband, Ned, are kidnapped in the middle of the night. Who took them and why?
In classic B.A. Paris style, the twists and turns kept me guessing. I was hooked from the very first line. Everything goes as expected right up until it doesn’t. While I enjoyed this fast paced thriller, a critical point in the plot left me with a lot of questions.
This is a great stormy afternoon thriller read. Get cozy and sink into a world of money and shadows.
