Oh man, there is a little bit of everything in this. Poverty, marriage, loyalty, lying, desperation, sex /robots, brain warping, Elvis impersonators, government conspiracies, chickens, teddy bears, a weird obsession with Doris Day, and prison.
And because it's trying to do 657871587857 things, none of them get resolved as well as they should. It's so much that it goes over the line and just becomes ridiculous, which is a shame from the ever esteemed Atwood. With so many statements she could have made, she tried to make them all and fell short.

So, I guess I was right to be hesitant about this book. I didn't like it at all and I only finished it because I had nothing else to read. I had no interest in any of the characters and the story was boring. I almost feel bad giving this book such a low rating because Atwood is one of my favorites, but this was pretty terrible.

Atwood presents a zany dystopia from the near-distant future. The book is fun but not necessary to have read.
I'm generally an Atwood dystopia fan, but I found the two main characters very unlikable.
