What a silly book from such a respected author! The end is just completely campy and a disappointment.

A wild, rambling exploration of issues including, but not limited to, capitalism, incarceration, human value, free will, love, and the ever-advancing future where people have sex with robots.

WEIRD.

The first seventy pages were compelling and then this book just went on a downward slide. Trite, ridiculous characters in a trite predictable plot. I love Atwood, but this was a real disappointment.

I found this more or less engaging though it got progressively sillier.

Another blackly comic Atwood dystopia. The plot was intriguing and kept me wanting to know more even if the characters were quite annoying and unlikable at times. The book's obsession with sex started to grate during the first third but when the more absurd elements (Prostibots, teddy bears etc) cropped up later on it became satire rather than bodice ripper which was a lot easier to put up with.

I read part of this novel when it various chapters appeared via Byliner and Amazon. It is important to remember that this book started as a serial.
That fact might explain why there is a feeling of disconnect or switching up half way though the novel. There is a shift. The second half of the book does not make as much sense, and it does not quite match or fit with the beginning.
It’s not as bad as tit sounds but there is a tonal difference between the two and the second half suffers. In part, this is because with the exception of one character, the characters are pretty uninteresting. The one interesting character, well, she’s not around as much she should be.

Interesting. Waiting for the finale of the serial.
