(TW: sexual assault)
OK. I enjoyed the worldbuilding, and the plot was fast and fun. I liked the Indian inspired world and magic.
But there was some weird sex stuff going on that realy bothered me.
Infact, it wasn't even wierd sex stuff, it was rape. It was unconsentual on both sides, neither of the charicters wanted it. They were MADE to have sex. And that is so fucked up. But what made it even worse was that the scene was written like it was a romantic moment???? Nope.
Basically;
there is an arranged marriage, arranged by the antagonist. And some sort of magic at the wedding made it so that the mmc had a compulsion to consumate the marriage.  Throughout the book he is able to fight aggainst this compulsion, and they just pretend they have had sex. But then the antagonist finds out they haven't had sex, so he puts the mmc under a stronger compulsion that he cant fight against. And they have sex that neither of them wanted. And the sex scene is played as a romantic thing.

I don't think this scene was necessary to show the antagonists evilness or control. It also wasn't necessary as part of the romance bc it was litterall rape.

I really liked this book but something about the way it was written just didn't hit right for me. It was still a great read and an interesting story. I'm not sure exactly what but something just felt like it was missing from the book. I probably won't reread it but I dont regret reading it either.
