After the disappointing read that was network effect, I have to say I went into this with extremely low expectations.

So I don’t know if that was what made this one of the better books in this series or if the author needed to come back to novellas and that worked.

The plot in this was different and interesting and unpredictable (especially compared to the previous books) and I enjoyed that s lot.

Also murderbot was back to its snarky ways in this one, so that was fun too.

I don’t know if the pacing in this was actually better than in network effect or if the noticeable lack of length (160 pages compared to the 350 pages of network effect) just made the pacing better, but this didn’t drag, had a nice fast pacing and a good mixture of investigation and action.

This was fun and entertaining and made me enjoy the series again, which yes repeating myself again, I didn’t expect after that last book at all.

Well done, Martha wells! Let’s hope the next one will be a bit different and a similar pacing ad well, so that it is kept interesting and more unique and makes this sierra worth while to read just like this novella did!

distinctly a murderbot diary with its sci-fi action, murderbot's social awkwardness and some nice preservation world-building.
this time there was also a murder mystery which was fun!

i liked it, as in it was perfectly fine and a very comfy read!
however it wasn't the best nor the most exciting one of the diaries.

Okay, this was really fun! I wouldn't say it's not as good as the previous ones, because it is good. It still has the same humor and less action maybe? But compared to the previous installments, this one didn't feel like a really wild emotional roller coaster. Which is still a good thing for me, to be honest. 😂

I mean, reading Murderbot always has some sort of high-stakes plot, with the prospect of imminent death (or shutdown) for Murderbot always on the horizon. But this felt more like a regular murder mystery story, with Murderbot trying to be helpful and keep everyone safe (even though some people are still wary of its presence). Also, I love the fact that Murderbot got to interact with a lot more bots here. And that again, we see humanity in these robot constructs.

Overall, this was a fun, good murder mystery installment to the Murderbot series. I really enjoyed it

This book starts with a dead body and a need for Murderbot to figure out who killed the human--fast. It follows a mystery plot, set on Preservation Station. This station is more fully realized than before, bringing together its unique elements, setting-typical technology, and some upsetting implications of the cultural clash between the Corporation Rim and non-corporate polities, well-handled. Murderbot's use of sarcasm to cope extends throughout this book (as well as demonstration of why its defenses are necessary). Murderbot doesn't seem to know it, but it does make some friends along the way.
