This just didn’t do it for me I’m afraid. I was lukewarm to the first book but decided to give the second a try. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t give me that warm comforting feeling like Thursday Murder Club, and so I doubt I’ll continue.
I also thought the casual use of racism was a bit uncomfortable in a book published in 2023, even if it is set in the late 80s. I just feel it could have been handled better

A number of twists and turns, and real character development in a number of cases. Touching, life affirming, and contemplative inner-monologue of the main character is a restorative joy to read. I am not a Christian but enjoy the setting and the philosophical/humanitarian aspects of this story, and the Christian setting is not unpleasant.
