I found this book meandered for me with no clear plot. It was easy for me to put down but I wanted to finish it to see if I was missing something I liked the concept of purchasing dreams. Some of customer stories were very poignant. I thought this was a 3 1/2 stars.

I liked it, it was whimsical and cute but I don't think it was meant for me and that's okay! I can truly appreciate the artistry of the translation and the lovely world that has been built but it's just not my cup of tea!

I really wanted to like this book but it was such a let down.
It reads more like a YA book, and the characters are very surface level. I wanted to know more about the subconscious dream world and about the characters themselves.

This was a cute premise, and certainly has the cozy vibes. I did, in fact, mostly use it as a book to read before bed since that's what it seems designed for. I just didn't connect with this one very well. I'm not sure if there's something lost in translation, but the writing felt somewhat stilted to me - especially in dialogue, and some characters were more caricatures than three dimensional people (the names didn't help this impression, especially for the dreammakers). By the end, we got a little more depth on some of them, but none had fully developed arcs within the narrative. The snippets from customers' lives and dreams were the more compelling aspects of the book to me, but they were just small glimpses. Some parts of the book settled into a nice groove for me and I enjoyed reading, but other times, especially when Penny was having to learn some technicality, it felt overly childish and simplistic. I didn't mind so much that there wasn't a plot beyond "Penny learns how the store works," as I do enjoy some low-stakes slice-of-life, but it didn't compensate by providing a lot of character growth. Sure, Penny learns how to work well at the store, and we do get some backstory for other characters, and some little resolutions to minor plot developments, but there isn't really the satisfaction of an ending well-earned. But it's sweet and easy to read, and it's fun to think about the concept, I'll give it that.
