It’s more like a 3.5 for me. I enjoyed reading this book, but the story is somewhat predictable and certain aspects lack depth. Yet it does grip you and make you want to not put the book down. I was both empathetic, sad but also sometimes annoyed at the main character, then I had to remind myself that she’s so young and in a difficult situation.

This type of book isn't what I usually read and was hard for me at times as I prefer to read fantasy and avoid the realities of life. I still enjoyed it though and have such respect for the main character. I'm glad I read it as I am fortunate enough to be ignorant of the experiences and choices the characters have to make. It highlights the struggle and sheer bravery of wanting a better life, not even for yourself but for others. Sacrificing so much to keep others happy.

Despite what the protagonist goes through she is a strong, resilient person who you can't help admire. Her character is written well and you feel every emotion she goes through right alongside her.

Though this isn't my usual read, I'm glad I read it.

Honestly might be my favorite book of the year.
I did a mix of audiobook and physical reading and really enjoyed it. I have a learning disability so it was difficult to read since there weren’t any quotations kinda like how Sally Rooney does her books.

The song “Labour” by Paris Paloma describes this book perfectly. 15 year old Ana is coerced into moving to NYC to marry 30 something year old Juan🤢
Juan is terrible let’s just say that without spoiling the book.

I truly grew to love Ana and wished that I could just give her a hug. She has so much perseverance as a 15 year old being dragged to a new country and living under terrible circumstances of abuse.
The way this story is written truly reminds the reader that she is so young and naïve but is forced to face these adult issues.

I loved this story and would recommend it to anyone
