K-Ming Chang is one if those writers that seems to be able to effortlessly and seamlessly blur the lines between poetry and fiction. You hang on every sentence, every word, to find bits and pieces of meaning spread throughout.  She weaves together myth, family, coming-of-age, womanhood, etc. into a very spellbinding collection of weird little stories. My favorite stories of the collection: Nüwa, Dykes, Mariela… but loved so many of the others as well.

A very well-written lit fic short story collection. Stories were grotesque, mother-daughter focused, and beautiful, but I had a hard time getting through it. Perhaps just burn out of Asian American short stories on my end.

this book's smell is giving me a headache. it has nothing to do with the story, its just the fumes is too strong. the new book smell is going to kill me.

I like the short stories though. It has the same vibes as The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enriquez but Asian-American, queer, and camp af.
