Books about bourbon aren’t supposed to make you cry but Pappyland is so beautifully written and well told it pulls at your heart strings from page one. It’s a wonderful journey through the Kentucky whiskey business that any bourbon enthusiast should read.

This book didn't have to be as well-written as it was. Great stuff from Wright Thompson. If you're expecting just the story of Pappy, look elsewhere. It's about Wright's journey as a son and dad, about Pappy's journey to success, and what bourbon means as a craft and a vessel for bringing people together.

A touch heavy on nostalgia at times, but that's a minor complaint. Anyone with a passing interesting in fatherhood and/or bourbon should read Pappyland.

2.5. Scattered, boastful, unnecessary. That sums up this author's writing and this whole book. It could have been interesting, but instead he made it about himself and inserted himself into this story from beginning to end. Superrrrr annoying. Still love Pappy (I've had it and it's worth the hype), but this author ruined the book.
