The summary doesn't prepare you at all for what this book is about. It's so utterly disturbing and gave me the creeps, but I literally couldn't stop reading it!
As a therapist I work with many traumatized child I am often skeptical that a fiction novel can accurately portray this subject. It's obvious that the author took her time exploring the dynamics and effects that incest and child sexual abuse has on the child, the people that care for him, and the community. She did an amazing job with this story.
Overall the book was fairly good. The content of the book is a dark subject matter. The story covers how the characters discover this dark secret, deal with the issue, how they heal and move on with life.
This was a good read, but a very difficult subject matter to deal with. I wasn't expecting it and while I consider myself to be pretty hearty, it disturbed me. But it's still a moving, satisfying read. Just be prepared.
Although the subject matter was difficult, I'm still glad I picked this book to read. I'm not sure how I would feel if it hadn't ended the way it did. We were left with a feeling of hope.
Amazing book. The emotional pain is vivid in this book. Kittle dares to speak the truth about horrific abuse in ways that others do not.
Katrina Kittle bravely took on a horrific topic and did so with honesty, realism, and respect. To have written it any other way with cheap fiction devices would have failed. A brilliant writer.
This book was extremely hard to pick up at times but also very hard to put down. It’s a tragic story that brought out every emotion- anger, fear, disgust, depression, pride, joy, etc. The writing and story telling is phenomenal. You’d never think it contained such dark material just from looking at it or reading the back. This book will stay with me for a long long time.
While the content and story line of this book is disturbing to say the least, the author does an incredible job making these characters completely raw and believable. I found I couldn't put this one down.
