Translated from the French by Ros Schwartz.^^^^Your typical seemingly-ordinary-youth-whom-possesses-extraordinary-powers type of fantasy story.^^^^I find that translated books tend to be slightly stilted and some bits are slightly clunky, but am grateful that I am able to read them at all! =) ^^^^The characters are slightly 2-dimensional, but plot and concept are quite decent I thought.

This was my second read through of this book and I still found it to be very enjoyable. I did, however, have a couple of moments of pause. However, I think this is a great fantasy story for children and young adults. (Hopefully this time I can read the next book! The first time I read it, the second book hadn't been translated into English yet.)
One of the things that gave me pause were the names. For example, a character that appears later in the Uncertain World is named Kyle while everyone else from the uncertain world has names like Azdhar and Toti and Torfann. With no explanation to serve as to why a native of the Uncertain World would have such a modern name. Maybe it's a plot point in a later book? I have no idea.
Otherwise, every encounter seemed to be cleared up a little too neatly. None of their actions seemed to have any real repercussions on them or those around them.
Still, I love the world (or worlds, technically) of this book series. The magic system is unique from other books I've read. Having a way to travel between fictional worlds is definitely interesting. I love that the geography and the creatures are so creative and different.
I would definitely recommend this book to others.

3.5/5.

Read as a teen and absolutely loved it. I think it was the notion of runes that did me in more than anything.
