Two exes, Piper and Sam narrate a steamy adult fantasy romance book while pretending to hate each other and trying to not fall in love... for the second time. Sam is a firefighter with plans to use his experience and knowledge as a mayor and better the town. In the process of doing so, he has started remedying some broken relationships and building connections with others that have experiences in the political world. Those people happen to be the Bellinis, a family that Sam was once close with for years of his life when he was dating Piper and best friends with her brother. Enter Piper, a struggling voice actress that has returned home to help her mother through the end of her pregnancy. At first, she's confused about why Sam is here and not the most excited to see him but eventually gets comfortable with his presence and starts working with him on the career opportunity of the lifetime: a multi-book series deal.

My reading at the beginning of August was not looking very good due to giving out multiple 2-star ratings and DNFing a book. I was certain that all of my reading before the next semester was doomed. But then I picked up Talk Flirty to Me and flew through it. (The read dates show it took me almost a month to read. I read a chapter in July and came back to it again in August.) I intended to read about a 100 pages a day before bed but ended up reading like the last 300-400 pages at 2am... I was addicted. I would like to thank Brittany from Brittany & Books on YouTube for recommending this book on YouTube and TikTok because this book is incredible!! I enjoyed reading about Piper and Sam individually and together. They were both working on their career goals and their relationships with other people. There were a wide variety of side characters due to Piper's larger family and who Sam works with but I didn't mind. It was refreshing to get their personality and dialogue with them. I was laughing, sometimes having to do so in silence because I stayed up reading, almost every chapter because of the humor and sassiness of the characters. I'm still not sure how I feel about Sam trying to be a mayor. Even though it made sense for how certain events played out, I think I would've enjoyed the story even more if he was only a firefighter and had more scenes at the station.

Romance books that have a higher page count tend to be a hit or miss for me because they'll feel too long like 50 pages could've been cut or too much is going on. The longer length of this book was a great choice because I wanted everything with Piper and Sam together. Livy Hart paced the story well for it to make sense for the longer book and didn't feel too rushed or too long. Some chapters it felt slow, like I was reading months of interactions and other chapters felt like things happened quickly. I think the pacing helped the story, especially with the gradual, mutual realization between Piper and Sam that maybe they didn't hate each other as much as they originally thought and those feelings they had in high school haven't completely gone away.

Tropes: a second chance, brother's best friend, found family, one bed, close proximity, miscommunication/misunderstanding,
Representation:
Content and Trigger Warnings: toxic relationship, possible infidelity, medical content, pregnancy, car accident,
