Cute romance with mostly lovable characters. If you don’t love insecure heroines, this book maybe isn’t for you. If you love reading about big messy, loving families or sexy nerdy firefighters who are really into public safety, this book is for you.
The writing in this book was surprisingly poetic, and it made for an enjoyable read. Definitely a story context that I hadn’t seen done before (*applause*), even if the story itself went exactly as expected. There are more than a couple steamy scenes but everything verged more on the side of romantic rather than truly spicy (IMO).
I have to give this book a negative a quarter-of-a-star for its unbelievably atrocious representation of fantasy/romance dialogue. I get that it was probably for comedic effect… but a writer who writes SO beautifully about human emotion literally made a few lines of fantasy/romance writing sound like what I imagine a 1980’s low budget porno would be. I CANNOT.
I also felt a bit weird about the end: for a modern romance it felt a bit old fashioned. But it was definitely a HEA.
Despite these grumbles, I’d read another by this author.
