Heart, humor, family, and holiday cheer as only Sarah Morgan can write it filled the pages of A Wedding in December, making it an utter joy to read.

‘What happened when two families didn’t blend, but collided?
Was it going to be a happy family Christmas, or a recipe for disaster?’

Sarah Morgan is an author I go to time and again for her wonderful characters and the interesting situations she puts them in. It was a truly entertaining mix of people and places with A Wedding in December, taking us from England to Colorado and giving us several POVs to enjoy. While there were lots of characters, Morgan made it easy to keep track of them and their antics as we watched every moment play out. Read More

I received this book for free from the publisher (Harlequin) as part of their bookstagram publicity campaign.

I give this book 3.5 stars which rounds up to 4.

I’ve read one other Sarah Morgan book and loved it so I was really looking forward to reading this one. However, I didn’t love this book as much as I thought I would.

My main issue was the amount of inner dialogue. In the beginning of the book, so much time was spent just on the inner feelings of the 3 main characters. That could have been condensed down significantly. It wasn’t hard to grasp how the characters were feeling, so a lot of the inner dialogue felt repetitive and didn’t do much to advance the story. The book felt a little bogged down by it.

The other thing I didn’t quite love was that the ending was a little anti-climatic. There was some stuff that happened off page that I wanted to see play out in the book.

As for the things I liked, I did like the setting. It will give you massive vacation envy. It truly was a winter wonderland which made it perfect to read during the holiday season.

I also liked that one of the storylines focused on the parents’ romantic relationship. That was refreshing to see. You don’t often see older couples in romance novels.

Overall, this book didn’t quite meet my expectations, but it was still enjoyable.

We are midway into December and it’s only 2 more weeks or so until Christmas. I think it’s safe to say that holiday reading and recommendations are in full swing – unless you’re like me and can curl up with a Christmas novel in the middle of July. Sun, rain, snow – I don’t care what the weather looks like outside or what the calendar says, there’s something delightful in the feel-good formula that most holiday-themed tales will deliver.

Harlequin is hosting a Holiday Blog Tour that began December 1st and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. They were kind enough to offer a number of titles to choose from and {one of} my selections was A WEDDING IN DECEMBER by Sarah Morgan.

First, this novel had me laughing on multiple occasions. The lies we tell can get us into some seriously interesting situations and this family has some issues (don’t we all!) I also don’t mean that in a bad way – they all just wanted to protect each other so badly that things, frankly, often went badly. There was a lot to unwrap in this one as it wasn’t just a quick romance – it had some depth and layers to it. Gorgeous setting and great characters that I loved at times and wanted to throw into a snowbank at others. Some heat and lots of romance and so much poor communication. Overall, 8 out of 10 mistletoes – it had more of the heart I was looking for in a novel set over the holidays without being overly sweet like a gingerbread latte with too many pumps of syrup. Bonus points for the gorgeous cover design!

Christmas settings eat your heart out! Winter snow, winter weddings, winter warmth...on and on.

In terms of the romances in this book, I was surprised to find myself most invested in Nick and Maggie's, especially as I cannot identify with any of Maggie's issues in terms of her self-esteem, or years spent prioritising children and homebuilding over anything else including her own happiness. I just felt that their respect and affection was still palpable, and I was shipping them as getting back together before I even knew they were the book's plan. Honeysuckle cottage sounded idyllic and their discussions felt fitting based on their relationship and experience together.

Rosie was sweet, and her relationship with her sister Katie juxtaposed with her fiance was such an area of growth for her that I appreciated it, and hoped she would get her HEA.

Katie and Jordan...I identified most with her ambitions, but struggled with her need to not tell anyone anything especially given her struggles. Her visit to the OH and therapist was excellent, and I have never been so happy as to find out at the end that Jordan wasn't lying to her about why he wanted to keep her in the cabin - it's very rare that someone shoot that straight in a romance, and nice to keep in character instead of just adding more angst. Despite Katie's utter inability to keep her nose out of, well, anything, her relationship with her sister is interesting, and her and Jordan had a lot of chemistry and I'm glad she chose to stick it out with him over winter. Though it is less permanent...more a Happy for Now than an HEA, it was no less sweet.

Whilst this isn't my favourite Sarah Morgan Christmas book (Snow Crystal Trilogy anyone?), it was sweet, emotional and festive. It left me with a smile on my face, a festive feeling and a desire to get on a plane and go somewhere snowy for Christmas every year.

A delightful holiday read! I loved the characters, and related so much to them—especially Maggie and Katie. I also loved the Colorado setting. A perfect December read!

Cute, but I found Katie's character super aggravating.

This is my second Morgan Christmas novel and equally as good. She does sister relationships so well!

Sarah Morgan has delivered a cast of likeable characters, an enchanting setting, cute banter, and cozy holiday vibes in this charming tale of family and love. The alternating perspectives offers an extra layer to the plot, and although predictable at times, the writing offers both heartwarming and hilarious scenes. Overall, this is a decent story but nothing special, and demonstrates the importance of not going it alone in life, and offered me a gentle escape from the realties of life.
