Spectacular look into the musical career of one of the most important rockers of the 1990s. Grohl is a captivating storyteller (I think the title is appropriate), and anyone interested in the history of music during the 1990s and 2000s needs to read this book, especially if they are interested in Alternative Rock. As a lifelong fan of both Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, this gives wonderful insight into what it took for their common musician to be successful.

Honestly, this is the way to go. I tend to struggle with memoirs and sometimes autobiographies. Especially when the timelines jump around. But this was neither. This truly was a collection of stories, not meant to make one big story. The title was chosen perfectly. He truly is a great storyteller. Even if you’re not familiar with him, the bands he mentioned, or the music overall. He found a way to connect it so that you felt like you knew exactly where he was. Although a lot of it is semi surface level, I think it is due to the fact that this will never be the full story. And I’m OK with that. If more books were written like collections of stories and not memoirs, I think that I would have a better time reading them, regardless of who they are and what the theme is. But this book definitely spoke to my soul. There’s nothing like the music industry, the people that shaped it, and honestly punk rock. I highly recommend this book, and I’m looking forward to eventually listening to the audio version as well, it was that good.

As someone who in the past year has been grieving the loss of a friend in her mid 20s, this book was a precious gift. I loved Dave's accounts of his music career and wild times on the road, as much as I adored his reflections on fatherhood and on grappling with the premature death of loved ones.
The only bittersweet note of this otherwise heartwarming memoir, was reading about Dave's love for and fraternal bond with for Taylor, knowing he recently left us as well. Some passages genuinely brought me to tears, but also served me as a reminded that those we love will always live in our hearts.

I LOVE when people read their own memoirs and Dave Grohl’s was no exception! Full of beautiful, funny, and awesome moments, I would definitely recommend a listen—even if you aren’t a Nirvana or Foo Fighter fan. Dave Grohl is just a giant music nerd is rock’n’roller clothing!

Any fans of music would find enjoyment in reading this book. There are a variety of chapters that focus on music, family life, and personal growth. A mix of some tragedy at times but overall a very inspiring book.
