Reading this post-affair. Dave Grohl remains a humble, talented role model for people to look up to. Yall are wrong for canceling him — everyone slips up, Grohl just doesn’t have the luxury of being out of the public eye. Still an icon worth celebrating.

This was a fun listen. Dave's a solid storyteller and a down-to-earth guy.

i listened to the audiobook of this and recommend everyone to do the same; having dave read the book to you definitely enhances the experience (sorry, calling him dave like that feels awfully parasocial, doesn‘t it?).
“the storyteller“ starts off somewhat autobiographical but quickly turns into a string of anecdotes recounted in a mostly random order. these are fun and interesting enough but do start to feel somewhat repetitive after a while, as does dave‘s insistence on his still-feeling-like-a-starstruck-punk-rock-kid even after all these years… and his incredibly successful career. he can kind of get away with it, because i do genuinely find him quite likeable but it doesn‘t necessarily make for a very compelling narrative.
i did enjoy hearing dave talk about his childhood and his relationship to music: his favourite bands and musicians and the way he discovered his passion. it also is very sweet to hear dave talk about his family (his daughters in particular) and the people he admires most.
having a celebrity recount their personal experience of public events (+ everything going on in the background) always fascinates me and this book was no exception.
overall this was decently written and an easy, mostly enjoyable — if rather repetitive — listen. recommend for fans of dave‘s music and/or his personality (as it appears to us, the public, on the outside).

If you’ve been hanging around here long enough, you know I have a little thing for rock musician biographies. I’m kind of fascinated by their lives and inspirations, what moves them and influences their music… and there’s one memoir in particular I’ve been hoping to read for what seems like forever. Dave Grohl’s The Storyteller. I am a HUGE fan, and have been since the very first time I heard “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on MTV. And yes, I may have preordered “The Storyteller” before I finished reading the press release announcing it. So you might think that my review is a little bit prejudiced -- but truthfully, he has earned every one of these stars with this well-written, completely absorbing memoir. You’ll cheer for him as he realizes his dream of becoming a touring musician, cry with him as he loses friends, family, and bandmates, and share his wonder at the incredibly blessed life he has led.
The Storyteller is jam-packed with non-stop story after incredible story, and yet will still leave you wanting more and more… just like a great Foo Fighters concert. Don’t miss it!
“Someday I’ll have to tell you the rest.” Oh, Dave… Trust me, we’re going to hold you to that promise.
