This was ... fine. I just didn't see anything special in it and I found myself bored a lot. It still has a lot of good representation and message but I just didn't care for this one.

#partner @scholasticinc I was most impressed with this book because it really felt like being at a music festival — the noise, the crowds, the rush of being around so many people who are so excited about the same thing as you. Especially after two years of a pandemic, it was surreal to read about. It’s also very clearly and very sweetly a love letter to going Black girls who are still figuring things out. The insta love thing isn’t my favorite, but I get it — that totally happens when you’re a teenager. This book did make me realize that I may need to take a little break from YA, given that most of the things I didn’t love about the book were genre-specific. But I’ll be back!

This one is probably closer to a 3.75 for me, but it was still a good read! I really liked that she was able to deal with tough issues well in the context of this YA romance. I also liked the complexity we saw within these characters and that what they were going through spanned past just a music festival and a romance. That being said, I did think that some of the issues surrounding the romance in the last third or so of the book felt a bit forced (I do think what was brought up could have played out well, but the idea of it happening within the course of a day was a bit too much of a stretch). However, like I said, this was still an enjoyable book!
