The instalove, the unlikable characters and the clumsy dialogue make this book a very forgettable read.
At least it's gay, so I'll give it one star more.

This was so good. Loved the POV from both people, and liked the story that unfolded.

From the dedication to the closing line, this book was amazing. It was truly a privilege to watch Toni & Olivia fall in love with each other, and to watch Olivia and Toni fall in love with themselves.
I love Johnson’s way of bringing quirk, seriousness, and unbridled joy to her books.

This was a lot of fun - Leah Johnson did not let me down! I really sped through this book and I think it lent itself to that since it takes place over a couple of days. I loved the romance but there was a strange reveal near the end that didn't fit in right in my opinion, and there were a couple of unresolved loose threads. Otherwise, this was a great summery sapphic read and I can't wait to read what Leah Johnson publishes next!
“Somewhere in the light-years of space between the spiritual and the scientific, between the known and the ineffable, there's live music.”
I read You Should See Me in a Crown last year, and I remember enjoying it! I wasn't in love with it as much as so many others, and it didn't become a new favorite, but it was a fun, cute book.
So I went into Rise to the Sun with the same expectations. Also, really hoped that it would help me get out of my All For the Game reread reading slump, and that I managed to read something that wasn't fanfic for that series (though I'm still reading AFTG fanfic, and I'm in the middle of Lessons in Cartography, and it's so good!! It's practically canon!!).
This novel is a love letter to music, live music, and its unique ability to unite us all. It made me feel very nostalgic about attending concerts. And it also reminded me of how if it wasn't for the panorama, I would have been able to go to Taylor Swift's Lover Fest and scream along to Cruel Summer!!
