I want to preface this review by saying that I started reading this series after seeing a tik tok that shared a quote from the series.
The quote was “when your boyfriend calls you into a room, he’s shirtless and standing right next to his best friend.. and he says “consider this an early birthday present baby”.. “both of you?” You ask.. his brothers step in the room.. “all of us” he says as..”
sounds like a pretty spicy reverse harem? Wrong. This quote I’ve now learnt is in book 4 of the series and isn’t an actual quote, rather a few quotes pushed together in the wrong order. I am very disappointed in the fact the several tik toks I’ve now seen all seem to quote this same thing. It’s misleading and not once was it mentioned that this series is the ultimate slow burn book.
Slow burns aren’t really my thing.
That all aside I found the plot of the book very good. I’ve enjoyed the ‘mafia’ element of suspense and danger, however I want to point out that none of the danger seems to actually be coming from the mafia? Around the end of this book I realised this author has a prequel series which predates what’s happening in the five families series.
This series could be based on a bunch of crimson figures and have the same effect. I’m not sure the Mafia element was integral to the storyline at all. Although I did enjoy it.
I will say that I think the main characters are the entire reason I liked these books and kept reading. I loved their dynamics and the mystery around who the FMC was really interested in. The romantic suspense was fantastic, even though it was very drawn out. I constantly described this book as the ultimate slow burn spice.
The spice rating for this book is a 2 which for me simply means there was some spicy kissing scenes and one darkened bathroom scene. Nothing more. The spice writing was fine, the kissing and scenes in the book are well written and very well described.
I’m not sure I’d recommend this as a good spicy book, it’s more of a decent book with an intense plot and a teeny bit of spice added.
