I dove right into this series without reading the author's other books, that is why I only gave it 3.5; however I will absolutely continue with this series because holy fucking cliffhanger. I will go read the Brotherhood series before continuing though.

Rating- 3 Good but with issues
Heat- 4 many scenes
Entire series rating- 3
Tropes- mafia romance, RH, second chance romance
Need to know- follows the Brotherhood series

As far as mafia RH books go, this is a good series. There is lots of steamy romance mixed with just the right amount of danger and intrigue. However, I really struggled with the RH part of this book. Don’t get me wrong, I love a RH, but I have discovered they have to be done right.

Here we have 3 issues:
-we have 4 men who have never desired to share a girl happy w sharing
-they all fall in insta love
-despite being told the girl is “special” we have no idea why

Now, a RH suffering from just one or two of these will still work for me. For example, say close friends genuinely long to find one girl that completes them, well then I will accept insta love and an un special heroine. Such as in A Table for Three by Lainey Reese. Or, we have people who never desired to share but we are clearly shown why the heroine is perfect for all of them. Such as Den of Vipers. But the combination of all of these things just left me questioning everything. All four of these men fell for this girl after just one conversation, and they fell so hard that they were more than happy to share her just so they could be with her. Yet even when being told from their POV, we never got to understand why they loved her.

Morality is a gray area that ebbs and flows, but I never cross over my lines.

That cliffy though. I wasn’t 100% sure whether or not I would keep reading, but the cliffhanger made me want to find out what happens next

I can tell I am going to love this series. RH, mafia with 4 guys (from what I can tell). This book doesn’t have a ton of action mafia wise but the flirting and tension with the guys as she met them was off the charts. Mainly Maddie’s POV with a few chapters from Matteo’s. It does end on a cliffhanger but the next book is out so you can dive right in.

Gilded Princess is a Five Families novel by Penelope Black, which is a mafia reverse harem story.

The prologue sucks you in and you are immediately connected to Matteo and what a badass he’s going to be. Maddie’s first chapter and swoon worthy encounter with a mystery man, equally sucks you.

The storyline flows smoothly and you are hooked by the steaminess of Maddie’s story, from the intrigue about her life (including her sisters) to the romance side. Where the story will lead with her ex, a coffee shop guy, a mystery man and maybe one more guy, is anyone’s guess, but it’s a story I can’t wait to read more of.

The story does have a few moments of dual POV’s which perfectly play out the other characters thoughts as the story progresses.

Even though this series is a spin off to The Brotherhood series, there’s no need to have first read the series as they follow different paths. However, to understand certain characters' backstories I’d definitely recommend it. I personally was wanting to read Maddie's story and secretly hoped it was going to be the next series from Penelope Black. Guess wishes can come true.

I love a good mafia story, and Maddie’s story did not disappoint! I am so excited for the next book to see where this story goes, and what happens to this 4-some!
