When Binya first laid eyes on the blue umbrella, she fell in love with it. It's the prettiest thing she had ever seen! Since one of the picnickers wants her leopard claw necklace, Binya got a chance to exchange it with the blue umbrella. Finally, she have it as her own.
Binya use it everyday wherever she goes and she always open it since she finds it prettier than when it's close. The blue umbrella is the prettiest thing in their village. Everybody looks at her whenever she pass by using her umbrella. Even though the colour fade through time, Binya still love her beautiful umbrella.
This is the first book that I have read from Ruskin Bond. It's a heartfelt story. It's about greed, envy and forgiveness. It shows that everybody can change if they are given a chance. It also shows that relationships are more important than material things in life.
Overall, a great easy to digest read!

Human matters. We often find people running behind materialistic rewards often forgetting about the people around them. This important message is mentioned in this book beautifully through a small girl. This is a great work. And also, the sceneries described are just amazing. I definitely love this book!
You can relate to Ruskin's characters so well as they come out alive. Short speed read that transports you to the unspoilt Garhwal Himaliays and its innocent villagers.
