I was putting off reading this book for about 652 days. I'm glad that I'm finally checking this off my TBR list, but I can't say that I'm glad I read the book. It was okay, I wasn't bored, but I felt like it was missing something? The writing is average, the story is a little above average. I felt like I was being told a story rather than being in it, there wasn't much description and at times the plot went all over the place.

this book was so much more than I expected, I am a SUCKER for enemies to lovers and didn't realise this was one (which was executed vv well! lots of redemption! morally grey! heartbreaking backstory!) But more importantly, the SIDE STORY IN THIS??? experiencing the MC grandmother fall into dementia alongside her, being in that denial and feeling the conflict between trying to give her autonomy and respect her consent and opinion but also knowing that she is not of right mind and what she's choosing is actively harming her....been there. that's what really got me tearing up and doing some serious self reflecting and coming to turns with some things with myself. it addresses all of that turmoil that comes with dementia in such a compassionate and raw way, bc there is so much anger and resentment with it too, but also addresses the turmoil of trying to decide to come out to your grandparents when a) they outspoken about their homophobia b) they're in a delicate place but c) you really REALLY want them to know the full 'you' before they pass (which is a whole other internal battle to come to turns with, that denial). ive never had a good relationship with any of my grandparents. three have passes, two to dementia, come out to none and I'm trying to figure out whether I should come out to my only remaining one. going through all that and then reading this??? didn't solve all my problems but definitely healed me a little. this book is so much more than a corny love triangle (although done so well!) and discusses self esteem, the idea of reinventing yourself, coming to turns with so much about growing up and standing up for yourself and accepting that hey maybe we do all deserve someone who loves us FOR us. 5⭐️
