I am a little confused by some people having found this one boring. Every day life has always been scattered throughout these books and I didn't find it particularly prominent in this one. I found the number of plot threads to be exactly right for my taste, I've found a few of the previous books a bit slow. I would have kind of liked a bit of an epilogue, but again, they have always kind of cut off this way. This is probably one of my favourites of the series so far.

There are certainly issues with this series. Sensitivity readers were needed throughout, and I sure wish that SA would stop being mentioned. I find it quite uncomfortable whenever it pops up and/or almost happens again. I'm a little disappointed about
Claude, but I'm guessing everyone thought the cause of those events would be traced back to Niall, so even though he's always been a selfish jerk, it still felt a little bit like a twist in a way?
But at the same time, a bit hollow because it felt too obvious. I'd still like
Niall to be called out though
, at the very least.

I do find references to side stories a little frustrating. From skimming very brief descriptions online - because I didn't want to be spoiled - it seemed like most were about completely different characters that only pop up once or twice in the main series. I feel like Sam's brother's wedding should have been in a novel at least, since it apparently involves at least three major characters and it happening at all contributed to the motivation behind one of the major bouts of plotting in Deadlocked. I will now have to wait until after the final book to dip back and fill in some of those gaps for the same reason, because I still don't know which side story it happened in. Footnotes in future editions, at least, please!

I don't think there's been any inconsistency in the characterisation of Eric, I've always found him to be incredibly self-centred - and that's okay, there's nothing wrong with liking a flawed character, flaws are interesting. I'd put at least some of his attachment to Sookie down to fairy blood / the bond. I had a strong feeling he would eventually
prove that by choosing himself or his own convenience in some way. I'd have thrown the empty pot at his head.
I know he became popular, but honestly, I'm glad
the penny finally dropped and ended that whole thing.
Sookie can be a little slow in working things out, it seems. Even more so when it involves her own feelings.

It feels to me like she just kind of presumed that her own attachment wasn't bond-related and carried on using the words and following the same patterns without really examining said feelings very much, [this is fine dot gif], and so of course
it eventually fell apart.
Something just had to happen to force her to
re-examine the relationship. I thought it was actually over after their conversation on the steps, but next time Sookie saw him, she went right on over. Dragging it out.

Her memory isn't always great either - "
another man that wasn't there when I needed him
" - written about Sam, who has rarely been anything but there, sometimes to his own detriment. Probably the only one who has been, actually? Sam has always been more than a friend, really, but that penny's been falling from real high up. I'll be quite pleased if/when it finally makes it all the way down. It'll feel earned.

I love the Sookie Stackhouse Series so much. Its not perfect but it's probably one of my favourite book series'. It has a great mix of being interesting, well paced, funny and emotional and with great characters and world building too. Sookie herself has developed so much from book one to now, it's great.
The only thing that annoys me with the last few books is that Erik is so annoying. He used to be one of my favourite characters, not necessarily because he's a good guy, he is definitley complicated, but he was interesting and funny. But then when he starts dating Sookie he just gets really annoying and moody and isn't as funny or clever as he used to be. Which I think Harris did on purpose as Sookie isn't meant to end up with him. But still, justice for Erik.
