I’m on a 7,000 mile hike and stumbled across the author on my social media news feed. I’ve listened to the audio of this book 12 times since starting it a week ago. There’s always something I missed. As someone with a chronic “invisible” illness I relate.

really excellent collection, and i would recommend listening to the audio as you read so you can hear the poems in the authors voice. they cover a lot: love, loss, sexual assault, chronic illness, self-harm, grief, climate change, and on.

some of my favorite lines:

1. "of course beauty hunted me. it hunts everyone. but i outran it, hid in worry, regret, the promise of an afterlife or a week's end."

2. "everyone can see who they were supposed to be. it's the readiest grief in the world."

3. "there is a test we can all take to find out the future. it's called the test of time. and what you do is you live until you die."

4. "that day in the kitchen when the ponds of her eyes froze, you started skating a figure 8 across them, over and over, trying to etch infinity back into what she saw when she looked at you."
