I listened to the author’s story on Armchair Expert and it blew me away. I loved that this story was a reflection of the real relationship with her sister.

4.5 stars Thanks to the publisher for my free copy.

4.5 stars - absolutely loved this one. I loved Katie’s story, the past & present timeline worked so well for this story and I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what had happened. At a certain point, I had it figured out but overall was captivated throughout this novel. I love a “fall from grace” story where the main character fights her way back - I was rooting for Katie the whole time. Would definitely recommend.

Katie Cleary was an Olympic skier set to bring the US home a gold with two of her best friends. Katie, Luke and Blair have been skiing together competitively since they were 5 and friends for just as long.

When a devastating blow to her family comes at the hands of her sister, Katie’s career and relationship come tumbling down around her.

We Came Here to Forget follows Katie as she flees to a new life in Buenos Aires, and how she struggles to unpack her story to her new friends, the reader, and herself.
For fans of The Act or Sharp Objects, Katie’s story is riveting — I couldn’t put it down.
emotional

I’m clearly in the minority for this, but I truly could not connect to this book. I’ve picked it up and subsequently put it down three times, and I think it’s time for both of us to move on with our lives. Based on the glowing reviews, I still recommend giving this a shot, but life is too short to read books that don’t make you love to read.

We Came Here to Forget has quite a few story lines, and yet they all come together perfectly. Katie/Liz has been through a horrific life experience, though it takes awhile before you find out what actually happened. It leads her to life as an expat in Buenos Aires, which makes the perfect backdrop for this novel.

There is a mysterious aspect to the tragedy in her past that kept be rapidly turning the digital pages, all while still becoming engrossed in her current expat life. The supporting cast of characters also adds a layer of intrigue and left me wanting more of their lives, even after the book was over. I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Very intriguing book. I really liked some of the lessons at the end and really became attached to the main character and her emotions.
