Very quick and easy read the goes down disturbingly easy. Henry's family moves to Hope House after the Great War. Her mother is in a locked upstairs room, so Henry takes baby Piglet for a walk every day while Nanny Jane keeps house and the cook tells stories of witches in the woods. The doctor comes in to check on mother once in a while, and when he does he and Nanny Jane give Henry that look. You know the look, the one she's not supposed to see. But what could it mean?

I really wanted to like this book and it was fairly enjoyable. However, it did feel as though the author was trying to copy te elements of a children's classic without putting enough of her own style into the telling of it, and this left me feeling detached from the narrative and protagonist.

Utterly sublime! If I could give this book more than five stars I would.

I do love a Junior book that could be written for adults as much as the intended age group.
Given a chance I would have given it 3 1/2* as no one questioned what was in the wood.
