This Question Haunted Me From The Start Of This Book And Now That I Finished It This Question Still Haunted Me
But Now I Can Finally Answer It For You
And The Answer Is Yes.............. Kinda................. I Don´t Know About Back But Here I Guess ............ If You Think Vampires Are Back In YA Great................................ But Not For Me
I Went Into This Book With High Expectations And Thinking I´ll Love It And Gush And Rave About It
But................................................. I ....................... Didn´t ..................
I Loved The 1st 50% Of This Book I Was Engrossed And Really Engaged In This Story But Then I Got To The 2nd Half And I Thought It Kinda Dragged For Me
I Found Myself Bored And Unintrested And Not Loving It As Much As The 1st Half Was For Me
I Liked Celine But I Didn´t Love Her She Was Not Like The Most WOWING CHARACTER I Have Ever Read About But I Did Not Hate Her At All
The Vampires Um.................................... Meh I Really Did Not Like The Vampires At All I Thought They Were Just YA Cliches And All The Things Twilight Was And Also The Werewolfs Too
I Will Finish The Series I Have The Second Book On Hold From My Library The Damned I Cannot Wait To Read That One Because The Epilouge Kinda Left Me On A Cliffhanger Making Me Wanna Read The Sequel To This Book
I Know I May Have Not Liked It As Much As Anticipated To But I Did Not Hate The Book At All I´m Not Gonna Trash This Book At All Reguardless Of My Review
Because This Book Just Did Not Live Up To My Expectations Does Not Mean I Will Not Finish The Series At All

´´First There Was Nothing Then There Was Everything I Assumed That This Is Baisten Awaking As A Vampire But I Could Be Wrong
I´ll Just Have To Wait For The Next Book To See What Happens Next .........................

“Trust in this important lesson I learned long ago: Rage is a moment. Regret is forever.”

The Beautiful follows a young woman named Celine who is living in a Convent in New Orleans after running away from her life in Paris. The moment she gets to New Orleans she is quickly swept into elite society and a group called the Cour De Lions. There she meets the second main character Bastian and they work together to try to uncover mysterious murders connected to Celine.

This is a novel I had pushed off reading for a while... Hence me reading it in 2021! I'm glad I read it but I don't see it standing out to me. This book confused me in a way that I don't have many feelings and opinions on (not in a bad way), it was just good.

The funny thing about this book is that when it was marketed it seemed as though it was going to be bringing back the vampire craze. But this book was more of a gothic thriller/mystery rather than a book all about the supernatural, which I'm guessing is part of the reason for my feelings!

For the most part, I enjoyed the novel for its mystery and above all its amazing characters and world-building. The book really is a page-turner, in the way that you always want to know what is going to happen next! The mystery is well presented but I have to say, the ending did leave me wanting a bit more but I'm hoping for that in the sequel! Secondly, the characters are nice to read about and pretty well developed. I really loved reading about Celine and her ambition to make her way in her ‘new world’ given the time period. Also, the romance between the main two characters is enjoyable for the most part, but again didn't overly stand out! The last thing I'll mention in this book is the world-building, which is, as the French say, magnifique! Renée really encompasses that gothic mystery aura in her writing and I think it is what made the book so enjoyable for me since I was disappointed with the lack of vampires! Also, I'm someone who loves historical accuracy and this novel is amazing when it comes to the fashion element and elite society at the time!

3.5/5 stars! Pretty solid book, but I should have read more reviews to prepare myself! I will definitely be finishing the trilogy and I can't wait to see more from Bastian and Celine!

~SPOILER SECTION~

The first thing about this book I'm going to talk about is the romance! Ugh! I thought it was going to be enemies to lovers, and it was... for the first two chapters of them being together! I wish there was more banter between the two, but hopefully more of that in the next books!

Pippa is just a gem, who I wished we could have seen more from and the same goes for Detective Grimaldi as well! Bastians past with the detective doesn't go into much explanation but near the end, we started getting sneak peeks of possibilities which I liked. Lastly, the fashionista Odette has the best character in the book! I just love her playful personality!

Now let's talk about our villain: Nigel. Did anyone else think the ending fell flat? I would have loved to have had the villain of the story to have been someone closer to Celine and Bastian but it was just Nigel, who only spoke in probably two chapters of the whole book. I liked the plot twist at the end, how Bastian is now a vampire but besides that, I felt like we were on a rollercoaster to find out who the murderer was, only to find that the thrill had already passed. And, don't take this as a bad review! It's a great book but is just wish there was more near the end.

Even though there was some controversy surrounding if it was good or not, I'm glad I picked it up. If I would recommend this... I don't know. But, I will finish the series and the paranormal experience!

Make sure you have google translate out for this one
dark mysterious tense slow-paced

Even though I did have some small issues with this novel there was still an entertaining read for me. I feelt like the feminism was a bit out of place meaning that it feelt alot like they acted the way women act today and not during 1800`s. The main character is describe like a young strong woman that dont want to be rescued by men but she still is a damsel in distress and still get rescued by men anyway XD.
Exept from that and that I did not care for the main love intrest, it was a entertaining read and I look forward to the sequal. Hopefully Celine will come to her senses and pick Micheal over Bastien.
The beautiful by Renée Ahdieh get a 8.2/10 stars.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF @ 25%

I really wanted to like this book; the plot sounded intriguing. But unfortunately, I just couldn't get into this book. Just like in her debut, I feel like I didn't get to know the characters at all. I was half way into the book and felt like nothing had happened yet. The writing is beautiful, but not enough to make up for the lack of characterization and plot.

I would have given this 2 stars but I was forewarned by other reviewers not to expect that many vampires. I gave it 3 for being a deliciously dark fantasy in general. I just don't think is the vampire book I was anticipating. I do appreciate that quality of Renée Ahdieh's work as well as the special attention to diversity. Post 2005, vampire books all started to blend together and nothing seemed to stand out.

Review

I'm conflicted. I loved the writing, I loved Celine, I loved the setting. But so much of the plot reminded me of Crimes of Grindelwald, in which too many subplots were opened and I felt pulled to multiple directions. The Beautiful not only had way too much exposition, but had a few confusing plot elements. I still recommend it, just not for the vampires.

f*ck me. i'm dying for this.

hmmm this was a confusing one for me. it read like a book meant to set up a series rather than a strong independent book that happens to be in a series. there were liiiiiterally no lore answers (which is EXTREMELY important to me in books) except a little "ah vampire!" and "i'm a w*rewolf" moment at the end. i feel like almost nothing happened until maybe 70% into it except for a few random murders. the instalove purely based on hotness and hormones is definitely present but i'm not mad at this iteration of it. pros? loved the new orleans setting and the mysterious vibe. i like celine, and i love her friendships. i wouldn't say i'm so dedicated to the whole series but i'll def start book 2....... mainlytogetthefrickinloredumpicravedforthisentirebookahhhhhh. though i predict i'm gonna end up DNFing it if i don't get lore answers within 100 pages.

I don't even remember what happened
