“She had told herself that it was some trick of his, making people like him. But she now knew that most people liked George Allen because of his generous heart.”
This was a super sweet Mormon romance. I am not Mormon (I’m an atheist actually) but I have Mormon family and friends and it was fun to read this story that heavily featured Mormon characters and Mormon culture without being proselytizing or cringy.
I loved how the author leaves footnotes after each chapter explaining aspects of her religion with no defensiveness and no haughtiness, just facts tinged with humor.
The romance was filled with angst, miscommunication, and young adult drama. At times I hated George and loved him. At times I hated Adelaide and loved her. But I did love them together. I also enjoyed how so many others could see how they felt about each other before they did. A meddling community is sometimes the best community.
All in all this was a fun, light, romantic, angsty, escape of a book.
